Overcooked Review (Nintendo Switch)

All, Gaming, Reviews & Opinions

Overcooked was first released last year for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game was later released for the Nintendo Switch in July and what a port it is. This is one local co-op game you can’t miss out on if you own a Nintendo Switch.

Players control Chefs who run around a kitchen preparing meals, cleaning dishes and serving food all while working under a time limit. The aim is to produce and serve as much food as possible inside that time limit. It’s a very simple idea but in reality, it’s a lot more chaotic and frantic that you would initially expect. All of which just adds to the charm of Overcooked.

The game is designed for up to four players, however, it can be played with just two people. Just be aware that the game is balanced towards a larger group so some levels will be quite difficult to complete with only two people. In addition to this, players need to obtain a certain number of stars in order to unlock some of the next levels so be prepared to spend time replaying levels to earn more stars. There’s nothing bad about this, however, assuming you enjoyed the previous levels.

In addition to the main campaign, the Switch version also comes with the two DLC expansions which add more hours of fun to the game. There’s also the versus mode for players to compete against each other. While this can be done with just two players, both players will be controlling two chefs. It’s a little bit awkward. As a result, it’s best played with four people.

Overcooked is a great local co-op game which finds a home on the Nintendo Switch console. Having to replay levels can be seen as either a positive or negative thing depending on your point of view. For us, however, it was a positive and great reason to replay the older levels.
