Cultist Simulator Gets Announced

The founder of Failbetter Games has been busy since he left the studio last year. He had previously helped to develop Sunless Sea and Fallen London but moved up to Bioware, Paradox Interactive and even Telltale Games. That’s not all however, he’s just announced an all new project.

His new project is called Cultist Simulator: Behold Our End and just like it sounds, it’s a simulator game about a cultist trying to raise their gods. Naturally, the gods wants to destroy the world and bring about the end of the world. Alexis Kennedy has now set up a Kickstarter page for the project and launched a new trailer for the game. While the Kickstarter page is available for viewing, there’s no way to donate just yet.

According to the Kickstarter page, the upcoming game will be a digital card game with a linear single player narrative. It certainly sounds like a very different type of game already then. Supposedly, “every choice you make, from moment to moment, doesn’t just advance the narrative – it also shapes it”. It’s clear then that this game will be very choice driven and that the game will adapt to the player. We can expect a game with a high replay value then.

The game will start with very few cards, but as it progresses, the player will be able to combine them into more. It seems to work in a fashion similar to the Doodle God games. Players must unlock the story themselves by combining cards to create new ones. This includes cards people cards such as “Believers” who can be promoted into “Disciples”. They can then be assigned roles to serve the coming Gods.

Currently there is no start date for the Kickstarter. However, it’s possible to leave feedback on the page for the developer to read and take into account before it starts.
