Getting Started in Terroir

All, Cheats, Hints, Tips & Walkthroughs, Gaming

Terroir, the winemaking tycoon game is quite harsh on beginners. There’s not much explanation in the tutorial sadly. So today we’ll be taking a look at what to do to get started on your path to greatness… and ensuring your vineyard survives its first year.

Which Grapes?

Firstly, you’ll want to start off with Chardonnay. They’re much easier to deal with as you can ‘pull back’ on an overripe growth pretty easily. While this type of grape does cost more, it’s worth it in the long run.

Dealing with rot and the sun

This is the most difficult part of the game as the weather is unpredictable. There’s just no way to tell how the weather will behave each month.

Every time it rains, your vines grow leaves and it’s critical to keep them trimmed in the spring months or else rot might set in. Then in the summer, you need some foliage to stop your vines from getting too hot.

If June and July are both quite rainy then it’s a good idea to just get rid of all the foliage and hope for the best. There’s not really much else you can do in this instance.

Target scores

For Chardonnay you’ll want to aim for the following score:

Acidity: 7
Sweetness: 6
Tanin: 4

The Body cannot be manipulated as it’s an average of the other scores.

Do not fret if you don’t get a 5* rating, you’ll still make a decent amount of money from the wine in the end. If you consistently struggle to get a 5 star rating with the above guide then try experimenting a little bit. Let us know if you’re having any trouble with it!

Critics

After you’ve bottled your win in the best bottle you can afford, you’ll need to host a tasting and pick some critics to invite. At the start of the game you’ll be stuck with some 1* critics but as the game progresses, better ones become available. You’ll want to pick the highest critics you can then fill the remaining blocks up with lower rated ones. This will ensure that your final price is much higher which is exactly what we want.

Afte this, sell your wine to the three main distributors who will sell the wine at full price. Avoid selling to the bargain distributor when you can.

That just about rounds it up. Have any questions about Terroir? Feel free to ask in the comments!
