Nintendo Switch is the Best Console of this Generation

All, Editor's Picks, Gaming, Reviews & Opinions

While the PlayStation 4 has done incredibly well this generation and the Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever created, the Nintendo Switch is a console unlike any other. As a result, the Switch could be the best console of the generation due to various reasons.

Portable AND a home console

No other console has been able to successfully pull this off. As a result, the Switch is the perfect home console thanks to the small dock and can also be picked up and take anywhere with handheld mode. It’s difficult to not love the Switch for being able to do this and anyone who owns one of these consoles can tell you how phenomenal it is to be able to do this. Sure, the graphics may not be amazing considering the console is weaker than both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One but they’re definitely not bad graphics. In fact, for what the console can do, they’re amazing.

The Games

It might not be on Playstation 4 level yet but the Switch has a good number of exclusive titles and it’s not even a year old yet. In fact, the console has probably had the best first year of this generation. The Switch has been receiving one major first party game almost every month since the console was released. In addition to this, there’s plenty of third-party support not to mention several big upcoming games being Doom, Skyrim and L. A. Noire which will be releasing over the next few months. While not all these games are ‘recent’ the fact that we can play them on the go thanks to the portable handheld mode will give these games a new lease of life.

It’s perfect for local co-op

Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One, the Switch comes bundled with two Joy-Con controllers. They can be used together by one player or split into two separate controllers for certain games. As a result, this could be the best local co-op console ever released. It’s designed around co-op and made so that anyone can pick up and play the game at any point. From the day you purchase the console, you can begin playing local co-op with friends or family. For a Playstation 4 or Xbox One, you need to purchase an additional controller which is another $60 on top of the console and game price. The Switch doesn’t have this problem.

It’s clear then that the Nintendo Switch is a revolutionary console for local co-op and it’s unique portability. It might not be the best in certain categories but when combined, the Switch sits on top of the console pile.

What do you think about this? Is the Nintendo Switch the best console of the generation? Let us know your thoughts!
