Oculus Announces Two New VR Games, One from Respawn and One from Pixar

All, Business & Industry, Gaming

The Oculus Vice President of Content, Jason Rubin, took to the Oculus Connect 4 show to showcase the next VR games coming to the platform. The most noteworthy titles from the showcase were new games from Titanfall developer Respawn and major movie studio Pixar. However, the details on these two projects are a little bit limited still. One of them will be releasing next month and the other in 2019.

The game from Pixar is being created by the animation branch behind Toy Story and Finding Nemo. The project is actually a tie-in to the next feature film being created by Pixar. The new movie is called “Coco” and will be releasing in cinemas next month. Coco VR will also be releasing next month, on the 15th for the Rift and the 22nd for the Gear VR. You can see the trailer for the project just below.

There’s some bad news about the Respawn game however, it won’t be releasing until 2019. Respawn explains that the goal of the VR project is to depict being a soldier in combat in a more realistic manner. Their co-founder, Vince Zampella, states that they want to convey the tension, atmosphere, fear and paranoia of being a soldier in the field. It certainly sounds like an interesting project at least.

Jason Rubin also states that the announcements made were just a “down payment” on fulfilling his promise on bringing the best developers to VR. He calls 2018 “they year of infinite potential” for VR so while we haven’t seen many announcements for 2018, it sounds like Oculus has something big up their sleeve. Either way, Rubin notes that “the road to mass adoption is going to take a while”. So we might be in for a long-wait.

Respawn has released a short video about VR on their YouTube channel, you can see it just below.
