Rainbow Six Siege Update 2.2.2 detailed by Ubisoft

Ubisoft has released a blog post detailing the upcoming update to their FPS game Rainbow Six Siege.

The 2.2.2 patch will be launching later today for all Rainbow Six Siege players. According to the blog post this is a “very important patch” which will be “deploying the foundation for many upcoming improvements”. The game is moving towards the end of the Season 3 title update now so there will be lots of changes coming in the future. For now however, here’s everything that’s been confirmed for this update today.

Dedicated Servers for Custom Matches, Terrorist Hunt and in-game voice chat

Custom Matches have been hosted on dedicated servers since 2016 but Ubisoft is now reducing the requirements to host a Custom Match and still play it on a dedicated lobby. This change will allow players to engage in smaller matches which are not the full 5v5. Sadly, this means the player hosted online lobbies will no longer be available. At least the LAN option will remain in the game.

All Terrorist Hunt matches will be hosted on dedicated servers in the near future. This will allow for a more stable experience while playing against the AI and means that host migration will be a thing of the past.

To round things off with the move to dedicated servers, the in-game voice chat systems are being improved also. Ubisoft will be “implementing an improved voice chat service for all platforms that will be hosted on dedicated servers”. It will feature Vivox integration to allow for clear communication while using less bandwidth. This will be coming to PC first and then to consoles as the team wants to “ensure a high quality launch”.
