Retro Cake Designs All Bakers Should Check Out

Nerdy & Geeky Foods

We all love to look at professionally made cakes and other types of food. However, sometimes we need to take a look through the amateur ones because they inspire us the most. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together this list of great retro gaming cakes which pay homage to their original game(s).

While these cupcakes are in a nice display box, creating their designs is simple. You just need some regular cupcakes and some shop bought icing. Then you just create whatever designs you like. You don’t have to do everything in this picture, you could mix and match to create our own. Maybe swap in Mario for Pong, that sort of thing.

These Pacman cupcakes are perfect for anyone who loves the classic game. Sadly, this person missed out Clyde, the lovable orange ghost who is a little bit stupid according to the Japanese. This is still a very simple design to do as you only really need to get some icing to create the designs with. Maybe if you do something similar, you’ll actually include Clyde.

This amazing cake uses a Tetris design and has references to almost every major retro game series. The end result is something that looks amazing and was clearly made by a professional. However, this doesn’t mean you should just pass this idea by.

The cake is a flat base with icing cut into different shapes. In theory, this should be quite simple to do at home also!

Instead of a full cake you could create a cake pop instead. Koopa shells from Mario Kart are perfect for this kind of cake. Of course, you could do a variety of other things from different old school games such as pacman.

Now this one might be a little bit ‘cheating’ as all you need is cake mix and a cake mold. Not just any mod however, this one comes in the shape of a space invader! Making the cake is very simple then and it’s up to you if you’d like to add a filling or more than one layer.

This last one is professionally made by Hours of Fun. However, it mixes several retro games together making it perfect for people who aren’t sure exactly what to put on their cake. It blends several classic games together without being too difficult.
