Star Trek Discovery gets 5 new actors
CBS announced a new round of cast members last week. These new cast members add to the ones previously announced by the company. The new actors come from a range of other shows such as Penny Dreadful and the 100.
The first new actor to be joining the ranks is Shazad Latif. He will be playing Lieutenant Tyler, a Starfleet officer in the Federation. He’s also currently in Penny Dreadful where he plays Dr Henry Jekyll. In addition to him, Rekha Sharma from The 100 will be joining the Discovery crew as Commander Landry, the security officer.
The Klingons seems to be playing a major role in this new TV series as three members have already been announced. Kenneth Mitchell from the Ghost Whisperer has been confirmed to be taking the role of the Klingon Empire commanding officer. In addition to him, Clare McConnel and Damon Runyam from Degrassi: Next Generation will be playing the leaders of the Klingon Empire; their characters are called Dennas and Ujilli.
These new cast members will be joining the already confirmed crew of the Discovery. Jason Issacs was previously confirmed to be Captain Lorca of the Starship Discovery. However, the main character of the show is First Officer Michael Burnham who is being played by Sonequa Martin-Green from The Walking Dead. Doug Jonesm Anthony Rapp and Michelle Yeoh will also star in the show.
While the cast is still being pulled together, the TV series is now beginning to film. The show is currently expected for a late summer/early fall release date later this year. However, a possible writers strike could delay the show yet again. We will provide you with more information as we learn more about this potential writers strike.
