Star Trek Discovery lead character name revealed
It was confirmed last month that Soneque Martin-Green would be playing the lead character in the show but CBS has now revealed her character’s name. This name has sparked quite a bit of debate amongst Star Trek fans as they try to understand the decision.
Martin-Green will be playing “First Officer Michael Burnham”. The name “Michael” is an interesting choice and has sparked discussions about what this could possibly mean. Some have suggested that the name has become unisex and women have been given the name while others suggest that her character is possibly transgender.
Currently, all discussions about this name choice are pure speculation and CBS hasn’t provided any more details about her character. Hopefully the company will provide more information about this character soon, to clear up some of the debate.
Her character was originally described as being a “lieutenant commander” but has now been confirmed as the First Officer. This show will mark the first time that a captain wasn’t the main character in a Star Trek series which should result in an interesting approach to the show.
In other recent casting news, Jason Issacs has been confirmed to be the captain of the Discovery starship. He’ll be playing “Captain Lorca” and Rainn Wilson has been confirmed to be “Harry Mud” who was a con artist that was originally introduced in the original Star Trek series.
Star Trek Discovery is expected for a later summer or early fall premiere after being delayed from it’s original May release date. CBS still hasn’t confirmed the new premiere date for the show but it’s thought that the company will make an announcement over the next few months. We will continue to provide you with updates as the situation unfolds over the course of this year.
