Project Scorpio

Xbox Scorpio hardware specs revealed

All

Last week, Digital Foundry traveled to the Microsoft campus in Richmond for an exclusive look at the Xbox Scorpio hardware specs. Eurogamer has posted a detailed report on the trip.

According to the Eurogamer report, Project Scorpio is smartly designed so that the GPU reaches the six-teraflop target which was set for it at E3 2016. The performance for the console is “remarkable” and the console appears to reach the native 4K target for a wide range of content. While this all sounds very good, it means nothing without a breakdown of the specifications and luckily, the Xbox Scorpio specifications have now been revealed.

CPU: Eight custom x86 cores closed at 2.3GHz
GPU: 40 customized compute units at 1172MHz
Memory: 12GB GDDR5
Memory Bandwidth: 326GB/s
Hard Drive: 1TB
Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray

The new CPU is around 30% faster than the Xbox One and their GPU is around 4.6 times more powerful. However, the most interesting thing about this console is the fact that it has a lot of memory available. The PS4 Pro only has 8GB of memory available which the Scorpio will have 12GB. This means the new Microsoft console will be able to stream high quality video at a very fast rate.

The new console is clearly much more powerful than the PlayStation Pro and it will also feature a Blu-ray drive which is something the PS4 Pro is missing.

While the specifications have now been revealed, Microsoft still hasn’t revealed the price for their upcoming console. Project Scorpio has been previously called a “Premium Console” so it will most likely be quite expensive. Microsoft will reveal the price later this year ahead of the Holiday 2017 release date which the console was given at E3 2016.
